SMS Millcraft's Oil City, Pennsylvania, Division has been repairing continuous casting mold coppers and advancing mold repair technology and design in North America since the 1960’s. Today we are a world-renown leader in the repair of continuous casting molds and their subcomponents, such as broad-face and narrow-face assemblies, various types of breakout avoidance systems and width change mechanisms.
Our Oil City facility is a single-source facility for mold maintenance and modification services. With state-of-the-art mold machining and coating facilities, our facility can refurbish continuous casting molds manufactured by all major OEMs.
With our staff of mechanical, electrical, chemical and environmental technical experts who have extensive experience with all types of continuous caster mold equipment, we can improve equipment designs to maximize caster speed and improve caster efficiency. We also have the expertise to improve mold life and reliability through improvements and modifications, such as thermocouple system improvements, improved copper designs and increased mold cavity dimensions.
In response to the increasing use of high-speed casting technology, which places extreme demands on the copper liners, SMS Millcraft works closely with our customers to find ways to extend their mold life and to produce consistent, high-quality products. We also manufacture spare equipment for high-speed casters and upgrade equipment and copper designs to maximize throughput and maintain slab product quality at a variety of casting speeds and copper thicknesses.
